Guest: Dr. Céline Gounder
Dr. Gounder is the Editor-at-Large for Public Health at KFF Health News and a CBS News Medical Contributor. Prior to that was a CNN Medical Analyst and a frequent expert guest on numerous TV news programs. She's written for The New York Times, The New Yorker, The Atlantic, The Washington Post, and more. She’s best known for her coverage of the COVID, Ebola, Zika, opioid overdose, gun violence and disinformation epidemics.
Dr. Gounder is a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine and Infectious Diseases at New York University’s Grossman School of Medicine. She cares for patients on the wards at Bellevue Hospital Center. From November 9, 2020 to January 20, 2021, Dr. Gounder served on the Biden-Harris Transition COVID-19 Advisory Board. In early 2015, Dr. Gounder spent two months volunteering as an Ebola aid worker in Guinea.
She was elected a fellow of the Infectious Diseases Society of America in 2016. In 2017, People Magazine named her one of 25 Women Changing the World. In 2021, InStyle Magazine named her one of 50 Women Making the World a Better Place. In 2023, she was named one of New York City & State’s Health Care Power 100, a New York State Woman of Distinction, and a National Academy of Medicine Emerging Leader in Health and Medicine. In 2023, she was also elected to the National Academy of Medicine, received the Research!America Meeting the Moment for Public Health Award, and joined the Council on Foreign Relations. In 2024, she joined the Board of Research!America and became an advisor to the Coalition for Trust in Health and Science.
Guest: Dr. Katelyn Jetelina
Dr. Katelyn Jetelina is an epidemiologist and data scientist residing in San Diego, CA. She works in health policy at Meadows Institute and is a senior scientific advisor for numerous non-profit and government agencies aiding in the response to epidemic and pandemic responses. She is the author of the Substack newsletter "Your Local Epidemiologist."
