Historic North Korea Visit: President Trump is now the first sitting U.S. president to step foot in North Korea. He walked over the border in the demilitarized zone and later met with Kim Jong-un for nearly an hour. The two decided to restart nuclear talks after negotiations broke down in February. Trump says negotiating teams from both countries will begin work “within weeks.” Critics say this meeting will only be historic if it actually leads to something.

China Trade Talks: Trade negotiations between the U.S. and China are back on track, and now the U.S. says it'll put any new tariffs on hold. President Trump met with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the G20 summit in Japan over the weekend. Trump also lifted the U.S. ban on Huawei, a major Chinese tech company. Though this is a sign of progress, there’s no guarantee that the two countries will reach an agreement.

Hong Kong Protest: Another massive protest is happening in Hong Kong today. Protesters have blocked streets and have stormed the government headquarters (still developing). Riot police have used tear gas and batons. Today marks 22 years since Hong Kong’s return to Chinese control from Britain, but the protest is also about a controversial extradition bill.

Public Safety Emergency: U.S. Attorney General William Barr declared a public safety emergency in rural Alaska and sent $10 million to help support law enforcement. Alaska has the highest per-capita crime rate in the country, and more than half the women in the state say they’ve experienced domestic violence or sexual abuse. Most of the money going to Alaska is for hiring new officers and for training and equipment.

NJ Sports Betting: For the first time in history, New Jersey is seeing more money in bets than Nevada. It comes after a landmark ruling from the U.S. Supreme Court last year that opened up sports betting as an option to all states. State officials in New Jersey are excited to see the state on its way to “becoming the Las Vegas of the East Coast" (at least when it comes to sports betting).

Sports Roundup: Major League Baseball took its first trip to Europe to introduce the sport to the U.K. market. The New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox played a two-game series in London over the weekend. One game lasted nearly five hours, close to the longest nine-inning game in history. The Yankees won both games. In soccer, the U.S. Women’s team is moving on in the World Cup. The team beat France on Friday and will play England in the semi-finals tomorrow. In the NBA, the annual free agency period is officially underway. Star player Kevin Durant is apparently leaving the Golden State Warriors for the Brooklyn Nets in a $164 million deal.

Army’s Tiny Drones: The U.S. Army will start giving some troops tiny, pocket-sized drones to use in the field. They’re designed to scout nearby terrain from above. The drones are about six inches long and weigh 33 grams each. They have cameras on them and can stream video and pictures to the operators. The technology is still being tested, but the Army says personal drones will eventually become standard.

Apple’s Diabetes Monitor: Apple is now selling a diabetes monitor in some of its stores. The One Drop device connects to iPhones to help diabetics monitor their blood sugar with Apple's Health app. One Drop isn’t actually made by Apple, but it’s the only diabetes product the company is selling in its own stores. The company has been looking to get more into the healthcare space and is reportedly working on a glucose monitor of its own for the Apple Watch.

Weekend Box Office: Toy Story 4 topped the box office for the second weekend in a row, bringing in another $58 million. Toy Story 4 is now the fourth highest grossing movie of the year. Second place at the box office was horror movie, Annabelle Comes Home. In a close third was Yesterday, a movie about a man who finds out he’s the only one who remembers The Beatles.
